A lifelong native of the Spokane area, Gary speaks highly of his roots attending Sheridan Elementary, Libby Junior High and graduation from Joel E Ferris High School. For the next two years following high school he found working at the Spokane International Airport loading food on planes very exciting and fun. It was his next adventure that took him out of Spokane for the following six years to Colville and Kettle Falls area as a carpenter on the Burlington Northern railroad.
At the first lay-off from the railroad, Gary was offered the opportunity to be trained as a meat cutter at the local Kettle Falls old fashion butcher shop, a profession that was a childhood dream. Amazingly just six months later he was in a position to purchase the mom & pop grocery store specializing in fresh cut meats, cheese, bread, beer and pop. It was in the little town of twelve hundred where he fulfilled his dream custom cutting deer, elk and even bear in the evening while the day was filled with special customer requests.
A number of years later he moved back to Spokane while still working as a wholesale meat cutter to raise his two girls near family. It was a decision to make roots in the foothills of Mount Spokane that still remains. In 1990 he changed professions to the credit union industry and states; “It has been a very rewarding choice and one I will never regret.”
Away from work Gary enjoys photography, horseback riding and raising Jack Russell Terriers and AKC registered boxers.
What three words would best describe SLECU membership?
Intelligent, Family oriented and Loyal. We have a very special membership that makes wise-thoughtful decisions; they care dearly about their families, friends and co-workers and are the most loyal, dedicated group of people that I know. We really appreciate all of our members for having such great qualities.
