The safety of the SLECU Online Home Banking program is important to SLECU. Here are a few reasons to feel secure about your online transactions.

Firewalls. The credit union is protected by a firewall, which is a barrier between the outside internet and the internal credit union network. The firewall verifies each network packet and determines whether to permit access. All incoming traffic is actually addressed to the firewall, which only allows pertinent information to flow into the credit union.

Encryption. Information is "encrypted" (or scrambled) at the highest industry standards. This protection guards your account from unauthorized activities.

Password Lockout. In order to access your accounts online, you need to know a unique password. SLECU allows only 3 chances to enter a password. After 3 failed attempts, it is assumed to be fraudulent activity and the account is "locked out". No further login attempts will be allowed. In this case, you will need to call or visit the credit union for a staff member to reset your account.

Automatic Sign Off. Sometimes you may be using a remote computer when you're banking online, so remembering to sign off is very important. If you do forget to sign-off, SLECU will automatically sign you off after a period of inactivity. This will prevent any unauthorized users from accessing your account.

At the log-in screen - enter:

User ID - your account number (base number - no suffixes)
Password (case sensitive) - Credit Union assigned for first time use
(after access, you will be requested to change)

Enter on-line services with caps lock "off". Your password will be case-sensitive. (you may choose passwords that consist of alpha or numeric, but alpha should be in lower case)

After "3" failed log-in attempts, the system will lock you out. In this case, you must call or visit the credit union to have a staff member re-set your account number in the system.

Log into the account you need to access. To access a different account number, point and click on "log-off", then return to "log-in" to enter another account number.

Guard your password as you would guard any PIN.

Change your password frequently.

To view an account history, point and click on the suffix number in the "account look-up" screen.

To see if a check has cleared, enter your checking account history and point and click on "check inquiry".

If you have more than one account number and they are "linked", you can transfer funds from the account you're logged onto to a linked account. To complete any type of transaction from or to view history of a linked account, you must first log onto that account.

To log off the SLECU online home banking system, point and click on "log-off". You will be directed to SLECU's Home Page.

The loan "payoff" amounts quoted online include principal and interest charges. (This does not include any additional costs that may be associated with a payoff, such as late fees or mortgage discharge fees.) This payoff figure changes daily and is only accurate as of the date you are viewing the information.

Have automatic payment for your SLECU loan? If you make a partial payment, the system will still automatically deduct the full payment on your regularly scheduled due date. You cannot designate any online loan payments as principal only; however, any excess payment resulting from a subsequent regularly scheduled payment will automatically be directed to principal.

There are certain accounts that have restrictions for online activity. You will be able to view the information and activity for these accounts, but do not have the ability to deposit, transfer or withdraw funds from these accounts, as indicated:
  • Term Share Certificates
  • IRA's
  • Christmas Clubs

Stop Payments
Use of this service binds the individual to the following terms:
  • Item Description. I request the Credit Union to stop payment on the share draft or check (item) described. I warrant that the item description, including the date, its exact amount, the item number, and payee are correct. I understand that the EXACT information on the item is necessary for the Credit Union's computer to identify the item. If I give the Credit Union the incorrect information, the Credit Union will not be responsible for failing to stop payment on the item.
  • Postdated Items. If this stop payment involves a postdated item, as indicated, I hereby request the Credit Union to Stop Payment on the share draft or check if presented for payment prior to the date of the item. My Stop Payment Notice on a Postdated item is subject to all other terms and conditions for Stop Payment Orders.
  • Stop Payment Order. I agree that the Credit Union will not be responsible for stopping payment unless my Stop Payment Order is received by the Credit Union (1) within a reasonable time for the Credit Union to act on my order prior to final payment or similar action. I understand that my stop payment request is conditional and subject to the Credit Union's verification that the item has not already been paid or that some other action to pay the item has not been taken. I understand that my Stop Payment Order will be effective for six (6) months. I also agree to notify the Credit Union promptly upon the issuance of any duplicate item which replaces the item subject to this order or upon return of the original item. I agree to pay the Credit Union a stop payment fee for each request as set forth in the Fee Schedule Disclosure dated May 1, 2000.
  • Indemnification. I agree to indemnify and hold the Credit Union harmless from all costs, including attorney's fees, (to the extent permitted by law) damage or claims related to the Credit Union's action in refusing payment of the item, including claims of any joint owner, payee, or endorsee, or in failing to stop payment of an item as a result of incorrect information provided by me.
